Kami no Niwatsuki Kusunoki-tei

Since childhood, Minato Kusunoki could see supernatural beings, especially friendly ones. Soon after his mother leaves him in charge of a vacant house in the countryside, he draws the attention of a wolf-like mountain god named Yamagami, who is intrigued by the unusual purity surrounding the residence. Through Yamagami's guidance, Minato discovers the source of this mystery: anything written by his hand—regardless of the surface or the words themselves—carries the power to exorcise evil spirits.

As more visitors arrive, Minato becomes the caretaker of an abode that now stands at the boundary between the human and divine worlds. At the same time, though still unfamiliar with the full extent of his powers, he begins to realize that they may have uses beyond simply keeping the area free of malice.

This is an anime about good vibes. A slow-life fantasy in a modern setting about a garden teeming with gods.

Though the animation is pretty standard, that opening sequence was animated well, at a level higher than the rest of the content. Still, this is not an action anime, but a healing anime, and I watch it weekly for that reason. The rest of the animation is at a decent and serviceable level.

The story is definition of slow life, usually a complete story in one episode. It was mostly episodic, save for the two-part finale. There is an overarching arc, mostly about the main character ... developing abilities he received from the gods as blessings. There's a recurring villain duo, but really for unintentional comic relief. A trigger warning for those who don't like pushover main characters. Kusunoki has the traits of one, but it is tolerable.

This is effectively a watchable anime that has built a niche for itself that separates it from the big guns of Spring 2026. That way, it allowed it to thrive at a time slot later in the week after you have watched the returning shows like Tensura, Re:Zero, and the rest. It is the perfect show to watch on Sunday winding down.

Mixed Feelings

I usually love slice of life, wholesome, lukewarm stories. So during the first few episodes I thought this would be a great anime. But I feel like the creators had an initial idea for the "vibes" but no idea for a story. Every episode they keep adding "conflicts" with no real depth that resolve themselves in an instant. I think if they kept to the wholesome vibes of him helping the gods with random errands it would had been more interesting then him "fighting off" evil spirits that make people feel a little bit down. I mean... are the gods really that important if the ... worse thing evil spirits can do is give someone a bad knee? The stakes for the conflicts could not be any lower and it shows. So why have them at all?

The best part of the anime are the interactions between the protagonist and the gods. It is just a pity they stopped doing that halfway through the season to instead manufacture meaningless conflicts. And it's not like there's any action in fighting off the spirits. They are resolved by lifting a piece of paper or by raising a hand and blowing a gust of wind. They really picked the wrong lane with this one. I am only giving it a mixed feelings because the gods are very charming.

Started out alright but just ended up all over the place and blah. At first I was invested in Minato and all the gods and changes going on in the garden, but soon enough Minato and Yamagami kinda stopped being characters and became plot walls that plot things bounced off of. Then the exorcists and Harima became a bit interesting with them discovering Minato's exorcism slips, but they too fell into predictable patterns. I don't even see how things really changed for them after contracting with Minato. The different gods stopped being interesting since they'd just pop in, do a lil spiel, then not a ... lot would change after -- not about the garden, the dynamics, the characters, nothin. I have no idea why I stuck with this boring heap of a voice over'd slideshow to the end. I wouldn't recommend this to any anime fan. If you're looking for a fun slice of life from this season, I think Kujima Utaeba Ie Hororo was much better.
