Both are about rakugo. Both are really inspiring and will make you cry.I find them pretty alike
Both series revolve around rakugo performers. I suggest watching Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu before Akane-banashi, because you will learn more about rakugo and the stories from it than from Akane-banashi. Already knowing about rakugo and most of the stories performed in Akane-banashi enhanced my enjoyment and appreciation of it.
