Presentation/Animation: 7/10. Despite a 148 episode length, a surprising amount of care can clearly be seen throughout the various arcs to give a competent and different feel on some of the technical aspects. The generally upbeat and atmospheric music makes it easy to stay attentive and while the artwork isn't the strongest it utilizes hype very well to keep exposition-filled episodes interesting and un-repulsive. Something noteworthy are the openings, the fifth especially, being absolutely fantastic alongside every ED (minus the first and fourth) keeping every episode ending on a good note. below Dragon Ball tier there!), during the "Ant Arc" there are awesome moments where emotion is actually shown through the Nen effects combined with effective voice acting and appropriate coloring. I'm not even entirely sure why I'm surprised at the overall quality, seeing as "bad shounen anime" is really only from super long adaptations burning out the staff over several years or decades.
Characters/Plot: 8/10. The anime adapts 7 arcs, catching up completely to the manga. Each of them are good in their own ways with the exception of one arc. Out of everything, there's only one arc I would label as a black sheep: the Yorkshin Arc. The characters, abilities, fight scenes, and plotline here totally bomb the arc into blunt stupidity and almost pretentiousness with how the community reacts to it. Other than that, aspects of Chimera Ant, Eating contest Arc, Gon's dad, and Nen itself detract somewhat from an otherwise very competent overall story. I'm not very happy about many of the characters in Chimera Ant, but the fantastic Palace Invasion sub-arc makes this almost irrelevant in retrospect. Greed Island is probably the best adapted arc. The world building is really weird and weak, how does nobody supposedly know about Nen if competitions with it are held constantly? Something unfortunate about the first 60 episodes is that they are totally outclassed by the 1999 adaptation, since this version decided to cut out what the manga author story-boarded into the 1999 version. This was a poor choice as it revealed how the mangaka correctly added in things that made the early arcs even better. And no, I'm not just saying that because "it's older." It legitimately outclasses the first 60 on basically every level, and yes, including animation and music. On a positive note I'm pleased to say that 2011 adapts Greed Island, which is far superior to the somewhat shoddy 2003 version.

Animation/Presentation: 4/10. The backgrounds are ideal, not being overly clean and usually decently colorful which is surprisingly rare. The character art is not nearly as good, only being about a step above Bakuman which has the worst character art I've ever seen. Everyone's emotions are either mild angst or full out crying, and the 「Sad Piano Music」doesn't make it any less believable or not sad. I do really like the integration of the ED, though opening is unmemorable. Seriously though, I really don't like the look of anyone except for Anjou. Story/Characters: 2/10. They could've skipped the second half of episode 1 through episode 9 simply by giving the dead ghost girl a fucking pencil to write with. Like seriously, the characters in the show even acknowledged this dumbassery. Everyone in the show is just an unlikable asshole, not flawed, just assholes. I can't stand how there's constant crying for pretty contrived reasons most of the time, and nobody ever feels sympathetic or believable. The closest we get is Memna's mom and even then it was weak. This has a pretty good dub! Also whenever a love pentagon like this is done it's almost always revealed after some random crying all in one exposition dump which ruins it. The best part is probably the last episode which could've been episode 5 or 6 had they cut out all the dumb parts and replaced it with better characterization. If you have no brain and like to cry to people in cartoons crying for no reason, then watch this!

Presentation/Animation 8/10: I'm very surprised how great this OVA looks. Adapting an art style like the manga's is a task I thought impossible, but David Pro actually did it. Each character, especially Ikkyu, looks fantastic and faithful at the same time. As "usual" now, the color pallet is an absolute joy to look at; and there are many points of creatively directed background animations. That's not all it has to offer, it even re-uses music from the DiU anime. It's technically lazy but the implementation is so great I have a hard time disliking it. which was an alright change. Having Koichi and Okuyasu show up at then end was a neat closer, though notice how Josuke's back is in one of the shots yet his face is never shown, probably because it would've looked horrendous. The only downside is the pirated version on Youtube has chinese subtitles, and superimposing the (hopefully accurate) fan-translated subs on top of it looks pretty bad. That's obviously not the fault of the OVA though.
Story/Character 6/10: Rohan is basically the same as his DiU counterpart. The new addition of his manga assistant was pretty good. None of the characters every annoyed me, which is surprisingly rare. The concept itself of having gods controlling the village of which mansions of rich people reside was pretty hilarious to watch; and the testing of manners was also done pretty well. Insecurities of correct manners showed in both of the main cast. Compared to the batshit insanity of certain parts, this is actually one of the calmer yet paradoxically weirder stories in jojo as a whole.

Presentation/Animation 0/10: I'm glad that I label this as "Presentation/Animation" rather than Art & Animation be because to even label this as art is derogatory to everything else I've ever experienced. Labeling this as art would be a farce of which the world has never seen. The animation and ""art"" in this show is extremely overrated. Myriad [there's that word again] addresses to the "animation" in this include "Berserk isn't about the look", "It's not that bad". Merely watching this is like wanting to sneeze for 20 minutes, getting a tissue, and finding out the tissue you grabbed was actually a heavily used, AIDS infected washcloth from Somalia. Anyway, let's deconstruct and subvert YOUR (yes, you, the reader)'s expectations on the previous 3 "arguments". Half of the appeal of Berserk is undeniably the look. It is that bad, and if you don't think this you've traumatized yourself and fooled yourself into thinking it's "not that bad". The 1997 looks far better than this, period. I'm not bothering to explain this to the same mongrels that spam this stupid "limited animation" MEME.
Story/Characters 0.5/10: Gee, maybe if the presentation/animation wasn't so bad the characters could actually emote their ugly pointy chin faces. But hey, at least they adapted all the new arcs, except for you know, the very first one, The Black Swordsman, which after THREE adaptations has still not been animated. Or the Conviction arc immediately following the Golden Age which leads directly into the next arc, which now makes no sense.
Myriad Defenses 0/10: Why do people even think this is watchable, let alone good? The worst part of this is the people that claim to watch this for the story which now makes basically no sense with all the arc skipping and rigid character moments. Oh, and the soundtracks are god-awful. I literally turned down the volume every time that screeching Korean pop-rock opening played. They even had the nerve to spam that music during the show, as if it was supposed to make a scene EPIC and COOL. It kind of makes me sad this show and the second season is rated so highly.

Presentation/Animation 10/10: Holy shit, have I never been so enraged reading words written about the collection of pixels I watched accompanied by audio. The myriad [I love that word] complaints about the "lackluster special effects" or "inconsistent animation" will haunt me until I die, and probably even after. Moving on to the actual reviewing. It's by far and away the best animation of 2017 and were it released in 2016 would give Mob Psycho 100 a good match. Oh wait, Mob's ugly? Oh right, since I can't use it as my 4K anime wallpaper desktop background. Right. Anyway, great soundtracks. Openings are pretty good (7/10

Story/Character 10/10: Why are people on this site so focused on character depth and plot complexity? Is it impossible to enjoy a simple story with a lovable cast of characters? What I love about this is that the undeniably simple characters in My Hero Academia are labeled as "charming and believable" while Little Witch Academia gets marked as "boring, predictable and 1-dimensional". The plot is NOT cliché, anyone who says this is clearly a pleb in an elitist's wolf skin pretending to only enjoy "smart" anime. Pathetic! Can you actually name another anime which follows a strikingly similar plot line? That's the definition of cliché you know. So after my tirade on MAL reviewers and how they're all objectively wrong, we move onto... continuing this rant. I mean, at least it's not as bad as the tragedy that is Hibike! Euphonium's score or Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo, but whatever. Okay NOW it's over.
MAL Reviews/Reception 0.125/10: At least people bothered to attempt using their brain to think about the show? Clearly not enough to realize basic concepts such as "wait a minute I don't have to analyze a show for 40 minutes for it to actually be good" or "am I so pretentious that every anime that features cute girls is automatically 2/10 moe slice of life trash". Actually scratch that I change my rating of the other MAL reviews to a 0.0675/10. Meticulously calculated.

This is an absolute hidden gem in a world filled with manga - the only feature of this masterpiece that leaves anything to be desired is the art, which is fantastic irreguardless. Also, a spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism.
